High extinction ratio thermo-optic based reconfigurable optical logic gates for programmable PICs

In this paper, a new scheme is proposed to realize reconfigurable and multifunction optical logic gates (XOR, XNOR, NAND, OR) using Mach–Zehnder interferometer with tunable thermo-optic phase shifter (TOPS). The are realized by tuning the of an signal TOPS without changing physical device structure. logical input “0” or “1” considered corresponding at TOPS. output depends on light intensity ports. designed silicon insulator (SOI) platform simulation result shows that on–off extinction ratio greater than 37 dB 1550 nm >25 for C-band. Moreover, it has low insertion loss 0.09 wavelength <0.8 C-band window. can be promising programmable photonic integrated circuits.
